Sweet Pongal Recipe | Sakkarai Pongal | Chakkara Pongal Recipe
Ingredients
- 100 gms Raw Rice washed
- 2 tsp Ghee
- A handful of Cashews and Raisins
- 200 gms Jaggery
- Water little to melt jaggery
- 3-5 tsp Additional Ghee
Instructions
- Wash 100 gms of Raw Rice and take it in a pressure cooker
- Add enough water in the pressure cooker to slightly overcook the rice.
- Pressure cook the raw rice
- Take a pan and Heat it. Add 2 tsp Ghee in the pan
- When the Ghee is warm, add a handful of Cashews and Raisins
- Fry the dry fruits in Ghee for few mins till the Raisins bulge in size. Switch off the flame and keep the dry fruits aside
- In a bowl, take some water and add 200 gms of Jaggery in it
- Keep the bowl on the flame and melt Jaggery in low flame
- Jaggery should melt completely. Then switch off the flame
- After the rice is cooked, add the melted Jaggery in it. You need to filter the Jaggery water for any dust particles
- Add 1/4 tsp Cardamon Powder to the cooked rice
- Switch on the flame and cook the rice, stirring all the while
- After a min, add the dry fruits along with its ghee to the rice
- Add more Ghee - approx. 4 or 5 tsp Ghee
- Keep Stirring till the Ghee floats on the top. When the Ghee floats on top, Sweet Pongal is ready
