Pureed Palak Dal

Fresh Spinach or palak is combined with Dal or Split lentil to give a tasty and healthy accompaniment to Rice or Roti

Ingredients

  • 1 Bunch Palak or Spinach Leaves
  • 2 tsp Ghee
  • 1 cup Moong Dal
  • 1 medium Onion finely chopped
  • 1 medium Tomato finely chopped
  • 8-10 Curry leaves
  • 3-4 Dried red chillies
  • 4-5 cloves Garlic
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Cumin Powder
  • 1 tsp Chilly Powder
  • 1 tsp Garam Masala Powder
  • Salt As per taste
  • Water

Instructions

How to make Palak Dal | How to make Pureed Palak Dal

  • Boil some water in a pan. Add palak leaves and salt. Puree the palak leaves only and keep aside.
  • Take a pressure Cooker. Add Moong Dal, water, salt , Ghee and Turmeric powder, pressure cook it for 4 whistles.
  • Take a pan, add, oil and mustard seeds. Let the seeds splutter.
  • Add Chillies, Curry leaves and Garlic cloves and saute for few seconds.
  • Add onion, saute till it becomes brown, Add Ginger garlic paste. Then Add tomato. And saute this till it becomes mushy.
  • Add Chilli powder, Garam masala and Cumin powder and mix well
  • Add Boiled dal to the mushy tomato mixture
  • Mix the dal mixture well and add Salt.
  • Add the Palak puree to the dal and mix well.
  • Mix the puree well. Give it a boil and Serve hot.

Notes

Do not Boil the Spinach/Palak leaves for long. Once the Palak is well immersed in the boiling water, switch the gas off and let it rest for 3-4 mins. After this take it to the blender and puree well
